Adela Miriam (Eichelberger) Detter, 95, formerly of Dillsburg passed away Monday, April 1, 2024, at Chapel Pointe, Carlisle.
She was born May 26, 1928, in Lewisberry, PA, to the late Elmer and Mary (Reiff) Eichelberger. She attended the New Cumberland High School.
Adela was the widow of Ivan L. Detter. They were married on April 8, 1946 and celebrated 43 years of marriage.
She was a member of the American Gold Star Mothers, Pennsylvania Grange, National Grange where she received her 50 year Golden Sheaf Certificate, York County Pomona Grange, Valley Grange #1360, Farm Women's Group, Dillsburg Senior Center, Friends of Gettysburg, Civil War Trust, and a charter member of the Pride of the Susquehanna. Adela attended the former South Mountain E.U.B. Church and served as a Republican Committeewoman for Franklin Township.
She was a very talented artist. She was an outstanding cook and baker, enjoyed canning and freezing produce and won many blue ribbons at the Dillsburg Farmers Fair. Adela enjoyed gospel and country music and had a beautiful voice and sang at church and many weddings. She enjoyed shopping, yard sales, auctions, playing cards and games, completing Jigsaw puzzles and especially working in her garden and flower beds, and watching the birds and wildlife. She enjoyed following the activities, sporting events, band competitions, musicals, and dance recitals of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Adela was a very adventurous individual and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. She was an 11 year breast cancer survivor.
She is survived by three daughters, Carol E. Weigle of Dillsburg, Lisa D. Detter-Hoskin of Duluth, GA, Lora K. Nailor of Whitehall; one brother, Ray Eichelberger of Lewisberry; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Ronald E. Detter, along with her parents, husband, and five siblings.
Services will be held Thursday, April 11, 2024, at 11:00 am in the Cocklin Funeral Home, Inc., 30 N. Chestnut St., Dillsburg. A viewing will be held Thursday from 10:00-11:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will be held in the Dillsburg Cemetery-Mountain Road.
Per Adela's wishes, please wear blue as this was her favorite color.
