On July 3, 2023 the Lord received Anne (Musser) Honeywell, 86, into His glory. She had suffered a lengthy illness and had resided at Messiah Lifeways at Messiah Village, Mechanicsburg, PA since February. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.” Psalm 116:15 (ESV)
Born on May 20, 1937 in Grantham, PA, Anne was the daughter of the late Clarence Z. and Helen (Brechbill) Musser.
Surviving are her husband of 40 years, Charles C. Honeywell, Jr.; her two brothers, Robert J. Musser (Marian) of Carlisle, PA and David L. Musser (Beryl) of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; cousins, nephews and nieces. A brother-in-law, Ronald A. Honeywell, resides near Lancaster, PA.
Anne attended Garrett Grove One Room School in Upper Allen, Mechanicsburg, PA; Messiah Academy Class of 1954 and Messiah Junior College in Grantham, PA. In 1958 she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Houghton University, Houghton, NY, where she studied organ with Charles H. Finney. Anne then taught middle school English and social studies in Ontario, CA.
In 1960 she returned to Houghton University as assistant professor in organ and piano. During the subsequent summers at the University of Michigan, Anne earned the graduate degree Master of Music in organ performance in 1963. Her teachers included organists Marilyn Mason and Robert Glasgow and Eugene Bossart for piano accompaniment. Post-graduate, Anne studied piano with Menahem Pressler at Indiana University, Bloomington, IN and Peter Curd at Washington University, St. Louis, MO. In 1970 she joined the faculty at Roberts Wesleyan University near Rochester, NY, where she taught music theory, piano, and organ as associate professor and was college organist until retirement in 2003.
Throughout her music career, Anne accompanied college faculty and students for their recitals and was organist/pianist at churches and weddings. A member of the Organ Historical Society, Anne advised and gave recitals on historic American organs in the St. Louis and Rochester areas.
An ardent student of the Bible, Anne loved the Lord Jesus Christ and twice attended Francis and Edith Schaeffer’s L’Abri Fellowship in Switzerland. She subsequently took courses at Covenant Seminary, St. Louis. Members of her extended family were missionaries; that influence, together with a summer trip to Mexico with Operation Mobilization, piqued Anne’s interest in missions and evangelism. She had a heart for the poor and ministered in inner city churches in St. Louis and Rochester. In addition to music events, Anne loved group Bible studies, reading Christian authors, and sharing her knowledge of the Christian faith with college students. Together with her husband, Anne was a faithful member of the Redeemer Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Carlisle, PA and rested her hope in Christ.
Private interment in Grantham Memorial Park.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 22, 2023, at 2:00 pm in her church, Redeemer Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 101 Petersburg Road, Carlisle, PA 17013.
