Barbara McCullough Obituary

Barbara Kaye Zeigler McCullough, 72, of Williamsport passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 18, 2024, surrounded by her daughters and husband. Barbara was born on January 17, 1952, in Williamsport, PA. Barbara was the daughter of the late Elda C. Emigh Zeigler and the late Ralph E. Zeigler, Sr.

Barbara was born and raised in Williamsport, PA. She graduated from Williamsport High School in 1970, and she earned her Sociology and Anthropology degree and Elementary certification from Lycoming College in 1973.

Barbara was married to Robert W. McCullough III, and had two wonderful daughters, Bethany L. Bondura (Brent) of Macungie, PA, and Laura A. Baker (Kenneth) of Dillsburg, PA. The McCullough’s celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary on October 2, 2023.

A generous portion of her life was dedicated to teaching first and second grade at Lyter Elementary School in Montoursville, PA. One of her greatest joys was being able to teach multiple generations of students. She loved her students and was enthusiastic about the “extra” special things she shared as her students remember the classroom’s old painted clawfoot bathtub filled with comfortable pillows used as a quiet reading space, her funny riddles and poems, and extraordinary attention, heart, and kindness that she showed to all students through her teaching. Barbara retired from Montoursville Area School District in June 2010 after 36 years of teaching.

A quiet and reserved woman, Barb loved to share her time, talents, cooking, and faith in God with others. She and her husband, Bob, always made time for family and friends. They would open their home to family and friends over the holidays, often finding room in their home for over forty people during holiday meals and sharing Barb’s latest completed craft, homemade table favors, and crafting ideas. Barbara was a talented canner of her summer harvest, a talent she learned from her mother, Elda, in her Third Avenue childhood home. For years Barbara shared her teaching talents at St. Mark’s Lutheran Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and spent every Sunday at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.

Barbara had three precious grandsons, Carter James Bondura, Kayden Charles Baker and Wyatt Weldon Baker who brought only JOY to her life.

Barbara had a loving family, her sister Gloria and Charles (Skip) Greevy, Megan and Michael Boyle and their sons, Miles and Jack, Charles F. Greevy IV (Chad) and Alysha Sides, and their daughter, Charley Elizabeth, her brother Ralph and Lou Ann Zeigler and their sons, Andrew and Peter Zeigler. Other relatives who were very dear to her were Doris and Larry Kraft, JoAnn and Matthew Kitko, Richard N. Somerville, and Mary and Peter DuBois.

Friends and family will be received at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Williamsport, on Saturday, March 2, 2024, from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. followed by a short prayer service at 11 a.m. in the church. The family would like to invite all to a celebration-of-life luncheon, immediately following the short prayer service at Herman and Luther’s, 787 State Route 87, Montoursville, PA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shepherd of the Streets, PO Box 2184, Williamsport, PA 17703, as this was a cause dear to her heart.
