Betty Joan (Sweger) Waggoner, 79, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 30th, 2026. Born on September 11, 1946, in Camp Hill, PA, Betty was the daughter of the late Jacob Sweger and Ethel Ream Sweger.
Betty attended Camp Hill High School where she was a majorette in the band. After graduation in 1964, she attended Thiel College and then transferred to the University of Kentucky to be with her husband. Betty graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1969 with Bachelor of Science in mathematics.
Betty is survived by her loving husband of nearly 59 years, Timothy Waggoner; her daughter, Dee Knight and her husband, John, of Warwick, Maryland; and her son, David Waggoner and his fiancée, Kimberley Greider, of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. She was a devoted and proud grandmother to her two cherished grandchildren, Johnny and Caroline Knight. She is also survived by her brother, James Sweger of Red Lion, Pennsylvania, along with extended family members and many dear friends who will miss her greatly. She was also preceded in death by her brother, George Sweger.
Betty will be remembered for her love of family, her warm heart, and the joy she brought to those around her. An exceptional cook and baker, she was especially famous among family and friends for her delicious chicken pot pie and irresistible sticky buns, which became cherished traditions at many gatherings. She loved spending time outdoors, particularly camping at the beach, playing tennis, and traveling. Betty embraced every opportunity to explore the world, creating treasured memories during trips to Alaska, Hawaii, Costa Rica, Europe, numerous states, and many of America's national parks. Her adventurous spirit and enthusiasm for new experiences inspired those who traveled alongside her.
Betty loved English Setters and was lucky to have shared her life with many of them, including Cinnamon, Whiskey, Dakota, Cody, Lacy, and Lacy II, all of whom held a special place in her heart. Betty found joy in life's simple pleasures, whether sharing a glass of wine with family and friends or celebrating the holidays she loved so dearly. She delighted in decorating her home for Christmas and especially Halloween, creating festive memories for all who visited. One of her greatest pleasures was hiding Easter eggs for her grandchildren, a tradition they will always remember with love.
Above all, Betty's greatest happiness came from her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose kindness, generosity, and love enriched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date, with details to be shared with family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation or to your local hospice organization in Betty's memory.
