Bonnie May Obituary

Bonnie K. May, 77, of Dillsburg, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday February 2, 2025.

Born into a large family on September 17, 1947 in Newville, Pennsylvania, Bonnie was a daughter of Ralph Lee Barrick and Hazel Maude Beaston.

She was a graduate of Boiling Springs High School in 1966. Soon afterwards she began working as a Nurse's Aid in nearly Carlisle.

Later in 1968 she married the late Robert Ross Shuff of Mechanicsburg. Within two years the couple had a son and relocated to Florida.

While in Florida Bonnie continued working as a Nurse's Aid on a part-time basis. Among her favorite pastimes then were collecting seashells off the beach, taking nature walks with her son and going to wild West shows.

In the early 1980's she moved back to Pennsylvania and resided in Dillsburg. She then worked for a local chiropractor while doubling as a sales representative for Princess House Crystal. Within short time she become a private homecare provider and later a small business owner. Throughout the 1980s she owned and operated two craft businesses, Personally Yours and Country Flare.

In 1990 she married Paul May of Dillsburg. Soon afterwards she established May's Daycare for which she successfully operated many years. A great number of wonderful children grew up through this establishment and a large number of friends were made along the way. She always put the kids first which helped bring about a long waiting list of parents trying to get their children enrolled.

Bonnie loved the countryside and in many ways was a cowgirl at heart. She was fiercely independent. At times she could be tough and fearless on the outside but always had a heart of gold on the inside. She played the acoustic guitar and piano. She loved Western horseback riding and was a natural crack shot with old cowboy guns. At times she was referred to as Annie Oakley as she never missed a target.

Among Bonnie's other passions were growing vegetables and flowers, along with cooking and baking.

Her true love in life was spending time with her family. She was well connected with everyone and showed a true concern for everyone's welfare.

Bonnie will be missed. She is survived by her husband Paul May of 34 years, son Jason Shuff and his wife Cathy of Dillsburg and grandson Bradley Ross Shuff of Florida.
