Cdr. Larry Morris, U.S.N. Retired Obituary

Cdr. Larry ‘Magic’ Morris, USN Ret. of Dillsburg, PA, formerly of Marlton, NJ, passed away on September 24, 2024, from a fall.

Larry Lemoyne Morris was born on October 7, 1945, to the late Robert Lemoyne Morris and Helen Mae Morris in Oakland, CA.

His father, Chief Morris, was stationed with the Navy in Kaohsiung, Taiwan and Larry attended high school in Tainan, Taiwan and graduated in 1963. He was subsequently appointed by President John F. Kennedy to the United States Naval Academy and was a member of 1ST Company.

Upon graduation from the Academy, in 1967, Larry entered and completed flight training in Pensacola, FL.  Larry ‘Magic’ Morris was a fighter pilot his entire career. He first flew the F8 Crusader and then the F14 Tomcat and served two tours in the Viet Nam War. Flying was his life- he never stopped living it.

After retirement from the Navy, Larry started a new career and spent 19 years as the Risk Manager for Cornell Crane & Steel Company of Woodbury, NJ.  A heartfelt comment from Delor Cornell is: “everyone loved him from the meanest ironworker to the shyest office person- he was everyone’s Hero”

Magic was a Vietnam Veteran, and a consummate patriot. He was an accomplished gymnast at the Naval Academy, a talented stained-glass artist and a renowned story teller. People loved his stories, his laughter, and his warm heart.

He was his sister’s best friend, and it was rare that she didn’t receive a birthday card or a Happy Mother’s Day card with a heartfelt note inside the card.

Recently he made a stained-glass piece for the Academy’s 1ST Company Caveman which he presented to the present 1St Company. He was thrilled beyond belief with the response received.

Larry is survived by his sister, Laurel Morris Bennett and her husband Terry.

He is also survived by his nieces Jamie Green, Wendie Green and her wife Karina, Leslie Gilreath, and his nephew, Tim Green, his wife GeriLynn and daughters Scout and Lexi.

He is survived by his daughter Misty Morris and her children Latrease and Marquise Ewing and his great grandchildren KJ Ewing, Jakaden and Dareana Gainer. His son Charles recently passed, and his children are Ashley Flynn and Mathew Bridges.

He is also survived by nieces Rosemary Rush (Andrew), Emily Odeh (Mahmoud), Anna Lesko, and his nephew Ryan Lesko (Rebecca). He is survived by many cousins including Diane and Mark Miller, Debbie and Rick Olcott, Steve Clark, Mark Murrel and Melissa Demaray many great nieces and nephews.

Interment will be at the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD. Condolences can be sent to Laurel Bennett, 420 E Daniel Ct, Kuna, ID 83634

To Larry, we wish you “fair winds and following seas!”
