Darrin Scott Russell, 55, of Wellsville, PA went home to be with his Lord on November 11th, 2025, while doing one of the many things he loved to do – working on a favorite project at his home near Wellsville.
Darrin was born July 8th, 1970, in Fort Scott, KS to Joseph and Freda Russell. Darrin’s early years were spent on a dairy farm, where he learned the joys of hard work, and a project well done. Whatever he did – whether it filled him with joy or not – was done thoroughly, completely, honestly, and to the best of his ability. Darrin loved to say, “If something is worth doing, it’s worth doing right!”
Darrin met Janice Sones at God’s Bible School in Cincinnati, OH, where they were both enrolled in the elementary education program. Darrin graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1992. They were married on June 11th, 1993.
After they were married, Darrin supported his young bride by driving a food delivery truck in Cincinnati. After Janice’s graduation, they owned and operated a dairy farm in Centerville, PA. Since 2002, Darrin worked for the Bureau of Disability Determination at the Harrisburg, PA branch, where he became the manager of the quality assurance department.
Darrin and Janice joined Lighthouse Baptist Church in 2006, where they became involved in the music program and where Darrin served as the treasurer on the board of deacons.
The things he loved most were being with his family, sharing stories about his family heritage, and working with his hands. He had a great sense of humor and would find the funny in any situation. He was a strong man, not only physically but also spiritually. He loved to learn about the Lord and consume information that would help him understand the Lord and the world He created.
One of Darrin’s mottos was, “You cannot have too many tractors.” He was the happiest when he had a project. Usually this involved fixing up an old tractor or truck, using his backhoe or another piece of heavy equipment to improve his property, help out a friend, or fix something at the church.
Darrin is survived by his loving wife, Janice Ivonne Russell (Sones) of Wellsville, PA, his darling daughter, Kerri Lynne Russell of Pensacola, FL, his father, Joseph Russell of Centerville, PA, his brother, Randy (Theresa) Russell of Titusville, PA, his sisters, Melanie (Andrew) Thomas of Salem, OH, and Carol (Ken) Lefever of Salem, OH. He also leaves behind many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Freda May Russell (Wright).
