David Reeder Obituary

David C. Reeder passed away unexpectedly at his Mechanicsburg home on January 27, 2025 at the age of 62. Dave was the son of the late Melvin J. Reeder, Jr. and A. Gayle (Fraker) Reeder.

     Dave is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Stacey (Spitko) and his 3 children, Scott Reeder of New York, NY, Kevin Reeder of Mechanicsburg, and Abby Reeder of Mechanicsburg. Dave is also survived by his siblings, Joyce (Rick) Tritle of Springfield, VA, Jan Luchetski of Mechanicsburg, Joan (Ernest) Moyer of Mechanicsburg, Dale (Beth) Reeder of Dillsburg, Jane Reeder of Mechanicsburg, James Reeder of Herndon, PA, and John (Meyra) Reeder of Oak Hill, VA. Dave also will be missed by his 8 nieces and nephews Lauren, Allison, Erin, Caitlin, Matt, Patrick, Ethan, and Jake, as well as his Uncle Alan (Betsy) Fraker of Greenfield, MA.

     Dave was born on March 18, 1962 in Mechanicsburg. He was a 1980 graduate of Northern High School and a 1984 graduate of Bucknell University. Dave worked at Mount St. Mary’s University in Sports Information and Financial Aid for 30 years before retiring in 2020. In retirement, Dave returned to his love of sports and began part-time work with the PIAA District III in 2021.

  Dave was an avid fan of all Mount St. Mary’s athletic programs, especially the men’s and women’s basketball teams. He was inducted into the Mount St. Mary’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2023 as the recipient of the Rev. John “Spike” Cogan Award. Dave was a lifelong fan of the Green Bay Packers, a legacy that is continued by his children.

   An active member of his community, Dave served on the Northern York County School Board from 2009-13 and 2015-17. Dave also supported many Northern and Dillsburg Area sports booster activities such as Northern Basketball Shooting for Smiles, Dillsburg Dual Soccer Shootout, and creating team programs for the basketball and soccer teams.

   Of all his accomplishments and interests, he was most proud of his family.

  A Celebration of David's Life will be held on Friday, January 31st, 2025 at 11:00 am in the Cocklin Funeral Home, Inc., 30 N. Chestnut Street, Dillsburg, PA.  A visitation for family and friends will be held 2 hours prior to the service on Friday, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the Funeral Home.

   In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests gifts be made to Mount St. Mary’s University Men’s or Women’s Basketball, in memory of Dave’s passion for Mount Athletics and the basketball programs.
