Dean Alan Deitrich of Mechanicsburg, PA passed away on September 19, 2024 on what was his 68th birthday. He was a kind and dedicated Son, Brother, Father, Grandfather, Uncle, and Friend.
Having excelled in athletics including football and basketball at Mechanicsburg High School, Dean would earn admission to The University of Pennsylvania, completing both his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees while playing football for the Quakers. He would go on to play for the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL and the Chambersburg Cardinals as a member of the 1980 National Championship team. He was later inducted to the West Shore Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame.
In adulthood, he pursued a career in software and Information Technology while starting a family that he would love, guide, and protect for the remainder of his life. Dean is preceded in death by his grandfather Theodore (Ted) Deitrich, grandmother Mae Hope Deitrich, grandmother Marjorie Wimer, and father Gary Deitrich of Mechanicsburg, Pa. He is survived by his mother Nancy Deitrich, sisters Leslie Delp and Lauren Bowser. He successfully leaves behind a legacy of three dedicated children Christopher, Lauren, and Ryan, his grandchildren Garrett and Keller, a loving extended family and wonderful friends.
A private family burial will be held at Mechanicsburg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mechanicsburg Wildcat Football Booster Club.
