Donald Myers Obituary

 

Donald F. Myers, 92, of Dillsburg, PA passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at his home.

   He was born July 1, 1933, in Wilmington, DE the son of the late Frederick and Lily Myers.

   While in high school, Don joined the United States Navy in 1952 to serve during the Korean War. He served as an EN-FN aboard the USS Comstock LSD19 as it hailed to Hawaii, Philippines, Japan, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Korea until it eventually brought back walking-wounded to California. He was honorably discharged as a Petty Officer 03 and hitchhiked home to Delaware from the West Coast.

   Don immediately began his career working for Conrail as both a Brakeman and Conductor until his retirement in 1995. He worked part-time Grounds Security for the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex until the age of 90.

   In addition to his wife of 45 years, Pauline (Williams)  Myers, he is survived by his sister Barbara (Myers) Mason of New Castle, DE. Don is also survived by two step-daughters, Barbara Tanner of Dillsburg, Sharon Riddle (Dayne) of York; his adopted children, David and Sheryl Myers of Delaware; eight grandchildren, Mervyn, Jr., Brenna, Roxanne, Mark, Alexandria, Amber, Zachary, Perry, Jr.; and twenty great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his step-son, Perry Witman, Sr.

   Don was a member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church and the V.F.W. Post #2863 in Richardson Park, DE.

  He enjoyed meeting and talking to people about church and his railroad days, reading history books, wood working in his shop, singing in the church choir, going to the Shady Maple Smorgasbord, and playing his harmonica. 

   Services will be held Friday, October 24, 2025, at 10:00 am in his church, Cedar Hill Baptist Church, 154 Chestnut Grove Rd., Dillsburg, PA 17019. A visitation will be held from 9-10 am at the church. Burial with full military honors will be held at 3:00 pm in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.
