Dorothy LaRue (Shoop) Farrell , “Dottie”, age 83 of Dillsburg, passed away on Saturday, April 26th, 2025 at her home with family and her kitty, Carolina, by her side.
She was born on Friday, January 30th, 1942, the daughter of the late Walter G. and Geneva L. (Boyer) Shoop in Maysville, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania. As a teenager she decided Physical Therapy was in her future and attended Thiel College in Greenville, Pennsylvania. After graduation, Dottie joined the US Air Force and served as a Physical Therapist during the Vietnam war.
Dottie enjoyed working with soldiers at the USAF Hospital Scott Air Force Base, Illinois and was proud to serve her country and care for her fellow countrymen and women. After her time in the Air Force, she continued her work in Physical Therapy while living in Fort Collins, Colorado and then moving to Phoenix, AZ. On January 4th, 1986, she married James Alford Ferrell in Phoenix, AZ. Dottie and Jim lived a wonderful life together, enjoyed retirement and traveled frequently until Jim’s death in 2007.
In 2017, Dottie moved to Dillsburg, Pennsylvania to be closer to her family. She was a member of the Dillsburg American Legion, Post 26. A member of the former Christ Lutheran Church (Filey’s), Dillsburg and was a former member of the Atonement Lutheran Church and School, Glendale, AZ.
Dottie enjoyed antiquing, theater, reading, traveling and absolutely adored cats. She was a bit of a librarian to her family and friends and enjoyed picking books out for you to read.
Dottie is survived by her loving sisters: Midge Slicker, of Gettysburg; Marlene Brown, of Sarver, PA and Judy Shellhammer, of Dillsburg along with many beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Dottie was predeceased in death by a sister, Edna Mae Shoop.
Services and burial with Military Honors in the Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, will be held at the convenience of the Family.
