Douglas Helfrick, Sr. Obituary

Douglas P. Helfrick Sr. February 17, 1947 – September 26, 2025

It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Douglas P. Helfrick Sr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Born on February 17, 1947, in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, Douglas lived a life marked by quiet strength, unwavering dedication, and deep faith.

He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Helfrick of Franklintown, PA, with whom he shared 35 wonderful years of marriage. He was a proud father to Gina, Kathy Jo, and Douglas Jr., all of Texas, as well as to David Trump Sr. of Chambersburg, PA, Robert Markley of New Cumberland, PA, and Deborah Martinez of Fort Worth, Texas, each of whom he loved as his own. His many grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of his life. Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac F. and Blanche L. Helfrick, and his sister Linda. He is also survived by his brother Dave Helfrick (Paula) and sister Deborah Weikert (John), along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He worked for Brady’s Construction in Camp Hill and Byron Waggoner Construction in East Berlin before retiring in 2010. He was known for his craftsmanship, reliability, and strong work ethic.

A man of deep faith, Douglas was a proud member of Crossroads Community Church for 34 years. He served joyfully as a church van driver, faithfully picking up students from Messiah College to ensure they could attend Sunday services. He also served as an usher and greeter, welcoming everyone with his signature fist pump—a gesture that became a beloved tradition and a symbol of his warmth and joy. His commitment to his church family and spiritual life was a guiding light, and he found strength and purpose in his beliefs.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 2, 2025, at 11:00 am in Crossroads Community Church, located at 1425 S. Market Street, Mechanicsburg, PA.  A visitation will be held Thursday from 10-11 am at the church. All who knew and loved Douglas are welcome to attend and celebrate his life.
