Edward “Ed” Strayer, 80, born April 17, 1945 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania and resident of Dillsburg, Pennsylvania for the last 35 years, passed into eternity on Monday April 28th, 2025 at UPMC Harrisburg with his wife, children and grandchildren next to him throughout his weeklong stay in care following a sudden stroke. He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Marjorie Keyser Strayer, his son, Drew Strayer, and daughter Sarah Renard, along with their families. In addition, Ed is survived by his brothers: Charles “Skip” Strayer of Gettysburg and David Strayer of York and their wives.
Edward Strayer filled his active and generous life with family, church, and a career as an elementary school counselor where he supported children in Oklahoma City, OK and Dover, PA until he retired in 2010. He graduated from West York High School, Millersville University (BA), and Shippensburg University (MA). He attended and served in many ways at Dillsburg Brethren in Christ Church since 1989.
Ed was a man of strong faith who believed God created all life and holds all of life in His hands – the things we find joy in and the challenges and grief, too. Ed firmly believed that God can use all of those experiences for our good. As an inquisitive man who researched various topics deeply, and especially those of faith, he knew questions were a part of understanding and growing our faith.
For those who can attend Ed’s celebration of life service, it will be this Saturday, May 3rd, at Dillsburg Brethren in Christ Church at 18 E. Harrisburg St., Dillsburg, PA 17019. The service will begin at 10:30AM with a lunch following. We ask, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to support the work of Peace Promise, a ministry Ed and Marj have supported for more than a decade, that serves women coming out of trafficking and sexual exploitation.
