Eunice L. (Rekward) Hager, 78, passed away Sunday, August 8, 2021, at Messiah Village, Mechanicsburg, Pa.
She was born January 1, 1943, in Waukon, IA the daughter of the late Wallace and Luella (Gaare) Rekward.
Eunice was a graduate of Luther College in Decorah, IA where she earned her degree in music education. She began her music teaching career in Wisconsin before moving to Pennsylvania where she taught for over a decade at Northern High School in Dillsburg. She later worked as the Performing Arts Coordinator at Messiah University. After leaving full time employment at Messiah she returned to work there part-time as the Cultural Series Coordinator.
Eunice was a faithful and active member of the Monaghan Presbyterian Church in Dillsburg where, among other roles, she served as the choir director for forty years. She sang in the Susquehanna Chorale for fourteen years, had been a member of its board, and served in the Chorale's educational outreach program. She also performed with the Messiah College Choral Arts Society and had been a part of its organizational board.
Eunice is survived by her daughter, Sarah H. Crone and her husband Leon, Jr. of Mechanicsburg; her sister, Dorothy Parrish of Sparks, NV; and her two grandchildren, Connor and Ava. Eunice was preceded in death by her two brothers, Lael and David Rekward.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, August 14, 2021, at 1:00 pm in her church, Monaghan Presbyterian Church, 1185 Gettysburg Pike, Dillsburg, PA. A visitation will be held Saturday from 11:00 am-1:00 pm at the church. Services will also be live-streamed on the Cocklin Funeral Home Facebook page.
