Gary E. Leister, 76, of Bowmansdale, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at the U.P.M.C. West Shore Medical Center, Mechanicsburg.
He was born December 14, 1945, in York the son of the late Cloyde Leister, Sr. and Nancy (Updike) Leister.
Gary is survived by his wife Vicki A. (Knisely) Leister; a daughter, Donette R. Harclerode (Mike) of Dillsburg; a son, Shaun L. Leister (Kim Dew) of Dillsburg; a brother, John Leister (Rose) of Dover; a sister, Glenda Wetzel (Ken) of Abbottstown; six grandchildren, Ashlyn Frick (Jason), Jenna Bushey, Scott Harclerode (Shannon), Kristin Black (Don), Michelle Burkepile (Jake), Jennifer Dew; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Marc E. Leister and a brother, Cloyde Leister, Jr.
Gary was retired from TRW in Harrisburg and was a member of the Dillsburg American Legion. He enjoyed building and showing hotrods, Fords and Mopars being two of his favorites. Along with his love for hotrods, Gary was passionate about his wife of 56 years who he always referred to as the “love of his life”. He was also entirely devoted to his family and was his children/grandchildren’s biggest fan. Gary’s devotion to help others went outside his family as he was known for helping the Bowmansdale community through his expertise in mechanics. His generosity touched the hearts of many.
Services will be held Monday, January 3, 2022, at 11:00 am in the Cocklin Funeral Home, Inc., 30 N. Chestnut St., Dillsburg. A viewing will be held Monday from 10-11 am at the funeral home. Burial will be held in the Fileys Cemetery, Dillsburg.
