Gary Lee Norfolk, son of N. Wesley Norfolk (dec.) and Beverly A. Martin (dec.) passed away at his home in Dillsburg, PA on Nov 20, 2022. Born in Baltimore, MD on Nov 26, 1956, he is survived by his brothers Stephen Wesley, Bryan Scott, sister Sherry Lynn Norfolk-Sirianni and half-sisters Jennifer Lee Conway and Andrea Alford Fantacci. He was preceded in death by his younger brother David Leroy.
Gary attended Bald Eagle Area high school in Wingate, PA. He pursued his passion for playing guitar by performing in various places around State College, PA.
In the early 1980’s, Gary played in a rock band, called Norfolk, with brothers Steve and Bryan. They enjoyed a moderate success playing in and around central PA and were greatly admired for their musicianship.
Gary furthered his musical ambitions, joining with Waylon Jennings’ band as stage manager. He entertained family and friends with stories from his years on the road with Waylon. Glen Campbell once said of Gary, “Gary is a fancy guitar picker!”
Gary settled down in Dillsburg, PA close to his sister Sherry where he took a job with Imperial Beverage as a delivery driver, which he held for many years. He was also an avid art collector, amassing many paintings and prints which he had hanging throughout his house.
Gary was a fierce individualist. Not one to join the crowd, Gary insisted on doing things his way. True to form, he resisted going to the doctor for checkups because he “didn’t want to be poked and prodded.” His aggressive cancer was discovered just a month before his passing.
Gary chose to live out his last days close to his family and with his beloved cat, Pepe. Gary, you had an exciting life-more than most of us will know-and you certainly did it your way. Rest in Peace, brother. You will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held June 24, 2023 at 3:00 pm at the home of his sister, 935 York Rd., Dillsburg, PA, please email sank4@verizon.net with any questions.
