She also served as president and vice president of the Northern York Education Association.  In 2010 she was recognized for her contributions to education in the Northern York County School District by being awarded the Friend of Education Award.

After retirement, Gayle served on the Board of Directors of the Polar Bear Foundation, continuing her care and concern for Northern students. She was a member of Calvary Methodist Church in Dillsburg, and a former member of the General Federation of Women’s Club, the Dillsburg Community Fair Association, and the Jaycee Wives organization. She was currently a member of Kappa Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, an honorary organization of women educators. During her retirement years she worked for Conestoga Tours and Wolf’s Bus Lines, escorting one-day and multi-day trips. She also worked for All-in-One Tours as a guide in many parts of Lancaster County, including the Amish Community, and in Lititz and Hershey.
