Harriet Conrady Obituary

 

Harriet Conrady, 87, formerly of Dillsburg, PA, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2024, at Messiah Lifeways, Mechanicsburg, PA, of dementia-related causes. She was born on November 4, 1936, in Ashland, Ohio, the daughter of the late Dale Dohner, Sr. and Frances (Kohler) Dohner.

Harriet was a graduate of Messiah University and Ashland University. Initially, she was an elementary school teacher, then took a break to be a full-time mother. She returned to her career as a librarian at Ashland Theological Seminary, Ashland, OH.

Harriet was a long-time member of Ashland Brethren in Christ Church and Dillsburg Brethren in Christ Church, serving in roles of Sunday School teacher, choir director, missions board member, deacon, and librarian. She and J-Lynn loved to travel and served as short-term volunteers in Zambia, Africa.

Harriet was pre-deceased in death by her husband, J-Lynn, who passed away in 2022, having been married for 63 years. She is survived by her daughter Lynda Conrady Hess (husband Rodney) in Fairfax, VA; son Jeffrey Conrady (wife Lois) in Dillsburg, PA; sister Sandra Climenhaga, brother Dale Dohner Jr., and sister Miriam Eberly.

Harriet loved people. She greatly enjoyed assisting patrons at the many libraries she staffed, hosting overnight guests in her home along with J-Lynn, or providing delicious meals for friends and family. Harriet also loved her role as grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved spending time with all of them---Grandchildren:  Alyssa Hoover, Rachel Miller, Jonathan Conrady and Joshua Conrady; Great Grandchildren: Eliana Miller, Lucy Miller, Oswald Miller, Charles Miller, Jackson Conrady and Maya Conrady.

A celebration of life will be held at Dillsburg Brethren in Christ Church on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at 3pm with visitation starting at 2pm with a meal to follow. A private burial will be held at the Dillsburg Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ashland Theological Seminary or Evangelical University, formerly known as Theological College of Central Africa (TCCA) at Evangelical University Library Support Fund, c/o CLDA Laird Gemberling, 1786 Winterhaven Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA  17055.
