Horace E. (“Gene”) Harrington, Jr., 77, went to be with the Lord, Monday, January 17th, 2022.
Born in Portsmouth, VA, he was the son of the late Horace E. Harrington, Sr., and Eva (Newsome) Harrington.
He graduated from Virginia Military Institute with a degree in civil engineering. He began his work as a civil engineer for the Bethlehem Steel Corporation finishing out his 36-year career as General Manager of Corporate Engineering.
He was a man of deep faith at work, home, and in the community where he served as a leader, teacher, and tutor on global mission trips as well as local ESL and school tutoring programs. He was an active member of West Shore Evangelical Free Church, Mechanicsburg, PA.
Gene served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
He was a devoted husband and father. Gene is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sandra (Garris) Harrington, his two daughters, Karen L. Harrington and Katherine (Harrington) LaPila, her husband Wesley LaPila, as well as two grandsons, Micah Daniel LaPila and Andrew Ryker LaPila, all of Mechanicsburg, PA.
A private Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, January 20, 2022, at Grantham Memorial Park with a Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at 1pm at West Shore Evangelical Free Church, 345 Williams Grove Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the Refugee Response Ministry or Short Term Missions both at West Shore Evangelical Free Church, 1345 Williams Grove Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
