John Daniel Zimmerman, 86, of Dillsburg, PA passed away Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at his home.
He was born December 25, 1938, in Carlisle, PA the son of the late Harry B. and Mary E. (Cart) Zimmerman.
John was a graduate of Scotland School for Veterans' Children and served his country in the U.S. Army and was a life member of South Mountain V.F.W. Post #6771 where he served as a commander in 2000-2001.
John was a retired Supervisor at Footlocker in Shiremanstown and was also employed as a Public Safety Officer at Messiah University.
John served his community as a Fire Policemen, E.M.S., Firefighter and former Director with Northern York Fire & Rescue #15 and Cumberland Fire Co. #40. He also served as the Carroll Township Dog Warden.
John enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and going to the beach.
John is survived by his wife, Arlene J. (Schrade) Zimmerman; his children, John R. Zimmerman (Judi) of West Chester, OH, Marie V. Calaman (Tony) of Dillsburg, Carol A. Kerlin (Roger-deceased) of Dillsburg; five grandchildren, Wayne R. Kerlin, Robert C. Regal, Kathryn E. DeLorme, Rachel J. Zimmerman, Carrie A. Zimmerman; and three great-grandchildren, Brent, Connor, and Aurora Regal. John was preceded in death by a son, Dean M. Zimmerman and eight siblings, George R. Zimmerman, Harry A. Cart, James N. Zimmerman, Margret H. Zimmerman, Cathrine Zimmerman, Mary E. Zimmerman, Lura E. Zimmerman, and Kay S. Zimmerman.
Services will be held Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at 11:00 am in the Cocklin Funeral Home, Inc., 30 N. Chestnut St., Dillsburg, PA. A viewing will be held Wednesday from 10-11 am at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be held in the Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle, PA.
