Karen S. Hopf, 79, formerly of Dillsburg, passed away Thursday, November 4, 2021, at Arden Courts, King of Prussia.
She was born August 3, 1942, in Carlisle, the daughter of the late Glenn C. and Margaret A. (Baker) Smith.
Karen was a retired Librarian who taught at Annville-Cleona and other local school districts.
Karen was an avid animal-lover and gardening enthusiast. She loved to care for the horses on the farm where she grew up, and she was a wonderful cat mother throughout her life. As a gardener, she went to water her plants early every morning. Her grandchildren have fond memories of carrying around watering cans and being told the names of every plant she had. She was also an avid artist, who was known by her family for her painting and embroidery. In fact, she painted a large mural in her old high school, which remained there for many years. In high school, Karen was on the field hockey team, loved to swim, and was valedictorian. She was interested in reading and writing, and she had even written two unpublished children's books.
She is survived by her son, Nathan Robert Hopf and his wife Gina of Morton, PA; three grandchildren, Laura, Michael, Sylvia; one nephew, John Miller, his wife Heather, and one great-niece, Kira Miller. Karen was preceded in death along with her parents by a daughter, Heidi L. Hopf, and sisters Carol A. Miller and Linda K. Smith.
Services will be held Saturday, November 20, 2021, at 2:00 pm in the Cocklin Funeral Home, Inc., 30 N. Chestnut St., Dillsburg. A viewing will be held from 1-2 prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Dillsburg Cemetery-Mountain Road.
