Kenneth W. Baker, 98 of Dillsburg, Pa, passed away on June 21, 2023, while under Lifesong Hospice care at Country Meadows, York, Pa. He was born April 11, 1925, at the Thunder Gust Mill area of Wellsville, Pa. He was the son of the late John R. and Irene Forscht Baker. His wife of 72 years, the former Janet Mae Trostle, died September 9, 2019.
Ken served in the Army during World War II. He was a battlefield medic with the 345th Infantry Regiment, 87th Division (Golden Acorn) and served with distinction during the Battle of the Bulge where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart medal and later the Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal.
He had a successful career in construction after WWII. He helped build both the Chalet Restaurant which is now the Dillsburg American Legion Post 26 and the original Dillsburg VFW post 6771 of which he was a charter member. Ken went on to become the East coast District Manager of Southern Structures and enjoyed flying the company plane. After retiring from the construction industry, he could not sit still and drove tour buses for the Rohrer bus company. Ken loved golf and enjoyed playing the sport until age 96.
As the last member of his immediate family, he is predeceased by two sisters, Marion L. Wilson, and Faye C. Smith and two brothers, Clair John Baker, and Eugene L. Baker.
He is survived by nephew and his wife Lon Shadel and Gina Shadel, William D. Baker and Kathryn Baker, John R. Baker and Mary Baker, nephew Douglas Wilson, niece Jenni Dise, and predeceased by niece Sandra Wilson.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at the in Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Pa. at 9:30 a.m. Friday, June 30, 2023. There is no viewing or visitation.
