On Friday, October 13, 2023, Loris M. Hinebaugh, aged 94, peacefully passed away in her Dillsburg, Pennsylvania home, surrounded by her cherished family. Loris was born in Jersey Shore, PA, and was the daughter of the late Howard and Florence Zerbe, also of Jersey Shore, PA.
Music was Loris’ passion. She pursued her undergraduate education at Lycoming College, PA, where she earned a bachelor's degree in music summa cum laude. She earned a master’s degree in organ studies at Indiana State College, PA. Later in her career, she earned a master's degree in American studies at Penn State University, Harrisburg.
Loris’ interests extended beyond music, encompassing historic architecture, antiques, American history, and art. Loris was a gifted organist and pianist, and was a lifetime member of the American Guild of Organists. Throughout her extensive career, she served as a professional organist at various churches, including Monaghan Presbyterian Church, where she continued playing long after retiring from her teaching career. Loris taught music in several states before moving to the Dillsburg area and joining the Carlisle Area School District, where she taught for 24 years.
Loris was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Carl Hinebaugh. She leaves behind her two children, Leslie Kaddour and Lorie Atlas, as well as three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Her absence will be profoundly felt by her family and all those whose lives she touched.
