Mark S. Ryder, 61, of Dillsburg passed away Sunday, May 9, 2021, at his home.
He was born June 15, 1959, in New York the son of the late Harold C. Ryder and mother Thyra C. Sperry.
He is survived by his wife Stacey V. (Hartman) Ryder; his brother, Scott Ryder (Lindy) of Dillsburg; nieces, Maria and Julia Ryder and Kaitlyn Mariano; one nephew, Noah; a step-mother, Flossie Ryder of Mechanicsburg; a step-brother, Paul Mariano of Mechanicsburg. He was preceded in death by a brother Charles A. Ryder and a step-brother James Mariano.
Ryder graduated from Mechanicsburg High School in 1977. As a teenager he worked at Pomeroy’s, later John Gross and JoJo's Pizza, Mechanicsburg. He was retired from Rabbit Transit, formerly Cumberland County Transportation, as both a driver and a dispatcher. He was a photographer for the Dillsburg Banner and the Pennsylvania Fireman for over 30 years.
Ryder was a nationally certified wheelchair sports official for many years, a member of the Dillsburg VFW, the Dillsburg American Legion, past historian of the Sons of the Legion, Williams Grove Steam Engine Association, current member and past president of Dillsburg Borough Council, representative for the borough with the York County Borough Association and the West Shore Council of Governments Association, past president and current treasurer of the Cumberland County Firemen’s Association, former president and life member of Upper Allen Fire Department, member Hampden Township Fire Department and life member of Northern York County Fire Rescue 15.
Ryder was a Civil War enthusiast and went to numerous reenactments of the Battle of Gettysburg over the years.
