Mary C. (Shoemaker) Sheffer

Mary C. (Kitty) Sheffer, 98, of Monroe Township went into the presence of the Lord on Friday, April 22, 2022, at her home.  Kitty was preceded in death (2007) by her husband, Dennis A. Sheffer, to whom she was married for 57 years.  She was born May 17, 1923, in South Middleton Township, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Raymond H. Shoemaker and Lorena Matilda (Davis) Shoemaker.   

Kitty attended Boiling Spring Schools and graduated from the High School in 1941.  She attended Carlisle Commercial College following High School graduation.  During World War 2 until 1950, she worked for the Reeve-Hoffman Crystal plant, finishing crystals for the government, and wiring marine radio sets.   

She was active in serving the Lord, in 1985 she worked as a ministry volunteer with Bible Release Time for many years in the Northern School District.  She was a charter member of Crossroads Bible Church of Monroe Township, PA where she taught the Wednesday evening Pre-school class for 12 years. 

From the start of the church in 1988 till 2018, Kitty was the smiling face at the Welcome Desk on Sunday mornings greeting members and visitors. 

During the 1960’s, Kitty was one of the first Den Mothers for Cub Pack 333 of Monroe Township along side her husband, Dennis, who was the first Cub Master. The joy in her life centered around serving her family and those around her.   

Kitty is survived by one sister, Elsie (Shoemaker) Kuhn of Newville, PA, one daughter, Donna L. Foss of Columbia, PA, and husband, James, two sons, Pastor Gregory L. Sheffer of Mechanicsburg, PA and wife, Debra, Craig A. Sheffer of Dillsburg, PA and wife, Barbara, one daughter-in-law Lois Sheffer of Louisburg, NC. Surviving are also eleven grandchildren, Wanda (Bruce) Packard, Kathi Neidig, Norma (Jim) Stephens, Guy Sheffer, Gregory  (Michelle) Sheffer II, Jason (Jessica) Sheffer, Jamie (Ben) Koppenhaver, Ruth (William) Jolly, Mary Blymire, Sara (Thomas) Fuller and Mysti Sheffer, nineteen great-grandchildren, Shannon and Emily Stephens, Allison, Lucas (Lydia), Madison, Megan and Carly Sheffer, Kaylee and Brooke Sheffer, Harrison, Andrew, Mary Catherine (Kate), Elijah, Evelyn and Mathilda Koppenhaver, Laurel and Cassie Blymire, Benjamin and Theodore Fuller.

Kitty was preceded in death by one son, Lee Sheffer, three brothers, Raymond, Creedon, and Donald Shoemaker and two sisters, Thelma Carrion, and Sarah (Peggy) Slaybaugh. 

Services will be held at Crossroads Bible Church, 1022 York Road, Monroe Township, Dillsburg, PA  17019 on April 30, 2022, with Pastor Gregory L. Sheffer, her son, officiating.  Interment will follow at Dillsburg Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the start of the Memorial Service at 11:00 AM at Crossroads Bible Church.
