Nancy Tracey Obituary

Nancy left this world peacefully on November 2, 2023. She was a graduate of Gettysburg High School. Nancy and her husband moved to Dillsburg in 1961. Nancy loved being a Dillsburg resident and it became an integral part of her.  In the 60’s she worked for Mr. Shambaugh and was the only employee for his local newspaper, it is now known as the Dillsburg Banner.  She completed cosmetology school and later she became a female business owner and operated the beauty salon on Baltimore St. in Dillsburg. She was an active member of the York County Women’s Business Club. Always wanting to help others, she next joined the Dillsburg Fire Company and became one of the first volunteer EMTs for its newly purchased ambulance.  Subsequently, she became a life member of the Dillsburg Fire Company.  After closing her beauty salon, she and her husband renovated and owned the business, Diversified Distribution Co of Franklintown. (This building now houses the Franklintown Post Office). After closing this business, she had the opportunity to work as a teacher’s assistant and loved working with the children of special needs at Northern High School. Finally, she finished her working career in Dillsburg as an office assistant and retired from the Northern York School system.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Richard Tracey, her children, Darlene (Tracey)Myers, James Tracey, and Raymond Tracey. All Dillsburg residents.

Her grandchildren gave her great joy and she was deeply proud of each one. Richard Myers of York, Rebecca Myers of Dillsburg, Stephanie Tracey of Camp Hill, Nicole (Tracey)Bodish of Lewisberry, and Alexandria Tracey of Mechanicsburg, and her great-grandchildren.  Zoe, and Hazel Myers of York.

No public services are planned; for as she gave to others during her life, her last wish was to give of herself to medicine.  It would make her happy knowing that any donations in her memory be forwarded to the Dillsburg Fire Company.
