Norma Ross Obituary

Norma Esther (Asper) Ross, age 82, of Messiah Village—Mechanicsburg, PA passed away peacefully in a nursing care neighborhood on September 2, 2021, after a lingering illness of several years.

Norma was born December 21, 1938 in Harrisburg, PA.  She was the only child of Norman & Susan Asper; Linglestown, PA.

Norma was born into, and was a lifelong member of, the Brethren In Christ Church; and a graduate of Messiah College.  She was a sacrificially loving mother, a career employee of the PA Department of Corrections; and a BIC Pastor’s wife at Colyer (PA) and Mt. Holly Springs (PA).  Moreover she was an avid gardener, a busy church organist & pianist, and enjoyed spoiling a couple of very special dogs: Peekapoo Josiah; and, later a Shih Tzu named Rufus.  Her favorite music, personally, was Southern Gospel.  She attended the 10-day Roxbury Holiness Camp most of her life—even sleeping a night or two as a child with her dear daddy under his car….  Decades later, now living in a family cabin, she was on the Camp’s Prayer Team (with her husband) for over a dozen years.  She relaxed with jigsaw puzzles and camping, especially favoring Cape May, NJ.  A closing note here is that Norma & Richard were married nearly thirty-three years ago in the Messiah Village Chapel.

Norma is survived by her loving husband Richard; her three children: Dwayne (& Shari) Steager of Millersville, Kevin (& Charity) Steager of Linglestown, and Dorine (& George) Englehart of Aspers; and her sixteen grandchildren; and a growing number of great grandchildren.

Her Graveside Service was on Saturday afternoon the 4th of September at the Air Hill Cemetery (Brethren in Christ); Chambersburg, PA.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Messiah Village Church, or The Messiah Village Endowment Fund.

Service arrangements were wonderfully handled by The Cocklin Funeral Home of Dillsburg, PA.
