Paul Alexander (Zandy) Griest of Lewisberry, PA passed peacefully at home on June 4, 2024, at the age of 73. He leaves behind his loving wife, Dolores Shelly. Zandy also leaves behind a brother, Samuel Griest (April) of West Virginia, and two sisters, Suzanne Griest Sanders (Harry) of Wellsville and June Firestone (Jonathan) of Dover.
Zandy was born April 26, 1951, the son of the late Russell F. and June A. Griest. He grew up in Wellsville, PA, surrounded by a loud, loving family, ducks, horses, dogs, and more, and he maintained a love of animals throughout his life. Zandy could pull a joke out of thin air; It often took those around him several minutes to catch on to his incredibly quick, dry wit. He was an avid reader and skilled craftsman that was willing to share his skill and wisdom with his friends and family. He will be missed by his nieces and nephews: Hank Sanders; Dylan, Corbin, and Mallory Griest; and Joshua, Jessica, and Jamie Firestone. He taught them how to cut down a tree, shingle a roof, and give the best Indian burns. Zandy had a creative heart and loved to spend this time working in the woods around the shingle shack, where he shared many years with Dolores.
A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Central Pennsylvania Horse Rescue, 100 Spanglers Road, Lewisberry, PA 17339.
