Phyllis Hinrichs Obituary

Phyllis B. Hinrichs, 94, of Dillsburg, PA passed away Sunday, February 1, 2026, at her home surrounded by family and friends in her final days.

She was born February 3, 1931, in Leland, IL the daughter of the late Rufus and Lillian (Sherman) Butler, the youngest of seven children.

Phyllis was the widow of Norman A. Hinrichs. The two enjoyed dancing together from the day they met and into their golden years, belonging to several dance groups throughout their 71 years of marriage, as well as enjoying traveling to near and far places of the world.

Together they ran a Tasty Freeze in IL during the 1960's and 70's, selling ice cream in the warmer months, and crafts and Christmas trees in the winter. She retired as a rural mail delivery driver for the Mechanicsburg Post Office in the late 1990's. Her largest role in life was that of a child caregiver. She helped to raise and influence her many nieces and nephews followed by her own children, as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a consistent source of love, support and acceptance for her family and will be deeply missed.

Phyllis was a dedicated member of the Dillsburg Garden Club for over 40 years, serving three terms as President. She was most content among trees, birds and sunshine, her hands in the dirt tending to her many flower beds, dedicating herself to beautifying her several acre property. She was well known throughout the community for her stunning gardens, regularly participating in the local Garden Club tours. Her grandchildren described growing up in her yard as a magical place for their young imaginations to run wild.

Phyllis is survived by two children, Laurie J. Hinrichs of Dillsburg, Daniel M. Hinrichs of York; six grandchildren, Elizabeth Baublitz, Claire Logan, Jennifer Slothower, Jonathan Hinrichs, Britney Hinrichs, Brandon Hinrichs; and eight great-grandchildren, Katelynn, Louis, Maxwell, Gwendalyn, Brogan, Vincent, Charlie, and Henry. She was preceded in death by her daughter Susan and son Jonathan.

No public services are planned at this time. The family will be celebrating her life privately. The Garden Club plans to honor her with a memorial in the spring.
