Born Rheta Bernice Snyder on August 20th, 1944, Bernice Culver completed her journey to heaven on May 4th, 2023. Known for her kindness, friendliness, great sense of humor and generous nature, she was Bonnie to friends and Bernie to co-workers for decades. She was born and raised in Harrisburg, she was a graduate of Susquehanna Twp. High School and Polyclinic Nursing School in 1965. She earned a bachelor’s degree in health care administration from the University of Chicago in the 1990’s.
She served multiple roles as an R.N. from Labor & Delivery, Cardiac, Emergency, shift supervisor, head nurse of the Outpatient Surgery Department and Director of Admissions at Polyclinic. She was also a private duty nurse for M. Harvey Taylor for 5 years and school nurse at East Hanover Elementary. She was a long-time church and choir member of Stephens Memorial United Methodist Church before moving to West Palm Beach, Florida. She was very involved as a parent as well, serving as President of booster clubs, cub scout den leader, junior church teacher and band/chorus exchange trip nurse. She enjoyed singing with her family, movies, sitcoms on TV, word searches and reading.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ross S Snyder (Virginia) and Lucille Lehr (James C.V.), and husbands, Barry Fox and Bob Tingfah.
She is survived by her 2 sons, Stephen Fox (Robert Allan), Richard Fox (Claudine), and daughter Deborah Cairns (Donald) and 5 grandchildren, Amanda, Andrew, Matthew, Wesley, and Maggie. She is also survived by 3 sisters, (Sally Snyder, Martha Jane Hess and Phyllis Parthemer), sister-in-law Marilyn Fox and 13 nieces and nephews. She is also survived by husband Fred Culver as well as 5 step-children and several grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in her honor on Saturday May 20th at 11:00 am in the Cocklin Funeral Home, 30 N. Chestnut St., Dillsburg. A visitation will be held from 10-11 am prior to the service. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Harrisburg.
