Rider Williams, 12, of Dillsburg passed away peacefully Sunday, November 21st at M.S. Hershey Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Rider was born March 10, 2009 in Somers Point, New Jersey. He was well known in our community, and would be seen on his beloved bicycle wearing out the pavement on his way to school, a friend’s house or his happy place, The Factory Dillsburg. When Rider was not training for wrestling, football or jiu-jitsu he was most likely getting ready for his next 5K. He loved the outdoors, especially hiking, hunting, fishing and camping with family and friends.
Rider enjoyed many foods like pizza, hamburgers and Aunt Bonnie’s shepherd’s pie but they were always better paired with his infamous hot sauce and milk cocktail. He also loved his dessert, but one that could not be topped was cherry pie filling right out of the can.
In his short life, Rider had many accomplishments he was proud of. At the top of the list was beating his father to the top of the mountain with a weighted backpack. He was the 2nd place overall male finisher at the Roof Park 5K, 1st place MAWA super novice wrestling champion, 4th Place PA State Intermediate Wrestling Championship and being a founding member of The Factory Dillsburg.
He loved his sports, riding his bike, spending time outdoors but what gave him the biggest smile was just spending quality time with his family. Whether it was listening to 70s and 80s classic rock, making crazy videos with his siblings, watching one of his favorite movies or trying a new recipe concoction to see what it tastes like, just being with his family made him happiest.
Rider is survived by his father Ed, mother, Nikki, sisters, Hayley of Brigantine, NJ, Kelsey of Williamsport and Huntyr of Poland, OH; stepsister, Madelyn Ward of Dillsburg; stepbrothers, Johnathan Pittenger of Etters and Jesse Pittenger of Trout Run; paternal aunt and uncle, Bonnie and Jim Bryan of Cogan Station; paternal grandmother, Ruth Williams of Cogan Station; maternal grandmother, Sharon Schauer of Williamsport.
A memorial service honoring Rider’s life will be held at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, December 1st at Grantham Church, 421 Grantham Road, Mechanicsburg with Pastor Mike Hammer officiating. A gathering of Rider’s family and friends will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Individuals attending are encouraged to wear purple, one of his favorite colors and the color of the school he loved so much.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Primus Nostrum Foundation, in partnership with the future Rider William’s Foundation. (Team Primus means Team First, Primus Nostrum is Latin for Ours First…) The mission of The Primus Nostrum Foundation is to significantly improve our community, using our art to impact leadership development, empowering the weak, and raising the bar on health and fitness.
