Robert Griffith Burkhardt, 85, of Dillsburg passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at his home with his loving family by his side.
He was born December 27, 1940, in Camden, NJ the son of the late John H. Burkhardt and Elizabeth A. (Mastin) Athey. Robert was also preceded in death by his step-father, Harold Athey.
Robert was retired from Kinney Shoe Corporation in Shiremenstown where he worked in the warehouse. After his retirement he worked for the Northern York County School District at the Northern Middle School cafeteria.
He was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, South Mountain V.F.W. Post #6770, American Legion Post #26, and the Eagles Club in Carlisle.
Robert enjoyed bowling, fishing, racing homing pigeons, bingo, going on cruses, and attending adult daycare at Messiah Village.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Eleanor G. (Carmany) Burkhardt; four daughters, Cindy A. Marburger (Fred) of Mechanicsburg, Diane M. Heikes (Dave) of Dillsburg, Wendy S. Toomey (Brant) of Dillsburg, Jill R. Johnson Roy) of Etters; eleven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Monday, March 9, 2026, at 11:00 am in his church, St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 South Baltimore St., Dillsburg. A viewing will be held Monday from 10-11 am at the church. Burial will follow in the Dillsburg Cemetery-Mountain Road.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church or Hospice of Central PA.
