Varie Goodyear Obituary

Varie Kathryn Goodyear,88, of York, went home to be with The Lord on Saturday, January 8, 2022. Born on June 18, 1933 in Carlisle, she was one of 9 children born to the late Walter and Elizabeth Bear.

Varie grew up in Mt Holly and graduated high school from Carlisle High School. She then attended nurses training at Harrisburg Hospital and received her RN degree. After graduating, she spent much of her nursing career in the York area, both in elder care and later retiring from the York Hospital. Varie married James M Goodyear in October 1955 and they raised 4 children together. Varie was a Godly wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her family knew she held them all up in prayer daily and she left a legacy of walking with Jesus that her family will endeavor to emulate. When at her bedside in her last days, the stories from her grandchildren and great grandchildren were about Nana telling them stories of Jesus and even leading them to the Lord in several instances. She will be remembered for her fierce love for her savior Jesus Christ.

Varie is survived by her children, Daniel (Lisa) Goodyear of Pittsburgh PA, Jim (Patti) Goodyear of Dallastown PA and Terri (Ken) Gordon of Mechanicsburg PA. and Mindy Goodyear, wife of her late son, Tim Goodyear. She was a loving Nana to 11 grandchildren; Andrew (Michelle) Goodyear, Ryta Goodyear, Kyle Goodyear, Beatrice Goodyear, Jennifer (Jim) Counts, Danielle (Dan) Pomraning, Kaitlynn Williamson, Tanner Gordon, Arielle Goodyear, Elijah Goodyear and Jaida Goodyear. Varie was blessed with 7 great grandchildren, Dakota Counts, Paisley Pomraning, Briar Pomraning, Sage Pomraning, Liam Williamson, Ledger Williamson and Addyson Goodyear. She is also survived by her siblings Jane Brough, Pat (Don) Snoke, Larry (Jan) Bear, Yvonne (John) Lewis, Joan (Bill) Beck, John (Kaye) Bear, Steven (Pat) Bear. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband James Goodyear and her youngest son Tim Goodyear. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Elizabeth Bear her brother Rick Bear.

The family is planning a memorial for her on her birthday, June 18.
