William Thomas “Jym” Ponter, 44, of Edinburgh, Scotland, died 10/20/2021 12:58PM.
Musician, Poet, Reversionist, Howevermonger, Songwriter of a Lifetime
He “retired” in 1999 at age 22 to pursue pure, prolific, authentic art, creating 150+ songs and 13 albums of unparalleled music, writing a collection of impressively obscure poetry, and acquiring ten decades of lived experience. Raw talent, raw truth and raw self, Jym knew exactly who he was.
Undeniable power, unquenchable thirst and feral-eyed vibrancy were his hallmarks, palpable to anyone near. His uncompromising hurricane of personality galvanized everyone in its madness, vitality and destructive glory. Lucky few saw the sensitive, deceptively calm center, witnessed his blaze of astounding life or felt the force of his inevitability. He alone prophesied and accepted his end - "the seclusion cinema is final."
He was preceded in death by uncle Stephen Ponter, aunt Annette Corbett, Adoptive sister Gail “Anni” Nicholsmith…as well as Robert Johnson, Hank Williams (the paterfamilias!), Baudelaire, Allen Ginsberg, Dylan Thomas and John Lennon.
He is survived by beloved parents, mother Marion (nee Hutchison) and father Bill Ponter, Sergeant Major Royal Army, KOSB (Ret.), adoptive brothers George Ross and Dominic de Placido, siblings-in-law Zachary T. and Logan S. Siekerman, several aunts and uncles, Bob Dylan, the Boston Red Sox…Friends! Cousins! Lovers! THE HILL!
He will be eternally loved in the style of true, romantic tragedy, by his honored and adored wife, one and soulmate, Megan M. Caliguri.
Jym belonged to no club, for he had no equal.
Keep the music alive. The music is important.
